Planning your child’s Birthday party

Fixing the date of your child’s birthday party

It is usually best to hold a party on the weekend nearest the birthday when dads an be there, rather than on a school day afternoon when smaller children, in particular, can be very tired. Keep in mind that if you decide to reserve space at a venue, you may have to make a date a week advance. If so, you could celebrate the actual day by asking a special friend home for a birthday treat. Of course, if your child’s birthday falls during vacation time you avoid the problem, but make sure you send out invitations about four weeks in advance.

You may be one of those families who have a birthday on or near Christmas or Easter. If so you might consider holding an “unbirthday” party for your child on the dame date, but at a quieter time of year-otherwise, make the most of that special date and use it as a basis for your party theme.

What time of day should the Birthday party be placed ?

Parties are traditionally held in the afternoon. While this is ideal for the host, giving you the morning to get ready, it can be a very long wait for small children, who may be tired and grumpy by the time the fun starts.

Here is a rough guide: For one to two year olds, the morning is usually best, when baby is bright. Keep it simple, with a cake and coffee for the mother s, and you won’t need to spend a long time preparing. For three to four year olds a lunchtime party is often ideal because serving hot dogs and potatoes chips can be easier than preparing lots of snacks. Also, you will have had the morning to get ready. An afternoon party, starting at around 3:00 p.m. is good for five to ten year olds because it gives you more time to prepare elaborate games and decorations. The over twelve’s often prefer evening parties.

A Favorite Game for Children

The wonderful Duck, Duck, Goose Game
Have all of the children to sit down in a circle facing each other They are now the Ducks. Pick one child to be the Fox. The Fox slowly walks around the outside of the circle, gently tapping the other players heads while saying Duck each time he/she taps. After one or so times around the circle, the Fox selects a “Goose” by tapping a players head and calling Goose. The Goose quickly jumps up and chases the Fox around the circle, trying to tag him before he can get to the spot where the Goose was just sitting. If the Fox succeeds in taking the Goose’s place he is now safe and the Goose becomes the Fox. If however the Fox is tagged while running from the Goose, he must start the game again.
